Entailing Farming with New Technologies

Diversification is the most crucial aspect of farming today. Punjab being the largest agricultural producer of India does every bit in order to ensure that its production is never affected by any reason.

For the purpose of better and improved cultivation and production, the use of new technologies and methods are required. The state government is laying stress on the use of new technology and methods to reduce the burden of farmers and also to reduce the possibility of any kind of loss to the farmers.

Diversification in agriculture

The experts in the field of agriculture stated that the paddy area in the state must be reduced and the state must diversify and start cultivating other crops like maize, sugar cane, fruits, and vegetables to enhance the income of farmers.

The government has come up with many important steps to encourage diversification of crops in Punjab. The state government is giving importance to biotechnology to increase the productivity.

For the purpose of better understanding of the concept of diversification, the government is setting up measures to improve the coordination between the farmers and the agro scientists.

Diversification in agriculture and integrated farming techniques will make farming a profitable venture.

The Punjab government is strongly committed towards the welfare of the farmers of the state. They are laying stress on the concept of crop diversification in order to ensure that every farmer of the state is in a better financial situation.This will be a major boost for the agricultural sector and another step towards the green revolution.

The diversification plan of the government would be instrumental in ensuring long-term sustainability and improving farm incomes. The Punjab government has amended the APMC Act 1961 to provide direct marketing and setting up of private markets. A new Contract Farming Act has been enacted and notification has been issued to regulate the contracts and make mutual obligations enforceable.

Effective steps are taken by the government to incentive the cultivation of Maize, Cotton, Sugarcane, Fruits and vegetables through ensuring subsidized supply of hybrid seeds, weedicides, etc. Not only this, capital assistance at the rate of 50% for purchase of maize planters and harvesters, cotton pickers, strengthening of infra-structure in designated markets, and timely availability of quality seeds through MoU with BT hybrid seeds manufacturing companies is also ensured by the government.

The Punjab government wants to increase the total production of the agricultural sector of Punjab. Along with this, it wants to ensure that the farmers are in the best of conditions, financially and socially. Diversification is definitely a major step in the field of improving and enhancing the current agricultural output.
